in line with forest school pedagogy, this is a long-term weekly programme. it will consist of day long drop off sessions for school age seven to eleven. ‘k.i.n’ offer nature based exploration, rooted in the forest school approach, giving children the chance to connect to themselves, each other and nature. the changing seasons and natural resources that are available in abundance inspire each day. we blend nature based learning and play and experiment with new nature based skills and ways of understanding and exploring the plant and animal kingdoms. in keeping with the forest school approach, activities unfold in response to interests of the children and needs of the group as well as what is happening in nature. nature based skills, crafts, stories, songs & games are supported and guided by qualified and experienced facilitators .
this is all held within a self-contained private woodland where the children really have the space to be free and access deep play and learning which is a rare thing to find in london.

“my son (now 7years old) has been attending 'kinship in nature’s forest school' since he was a toddler - starting with us in attendance and now going independently - and he absolutely loves it.
it’s a friendly and inviting atmosphere and the children get to learn all about plants, animals, nature and its cycles. they learn practical skills and crafts, as well as enjoying a good-old campfire sing-song.
as londoners it’s really important for us to have our son immersed in nature as much as possible - and all the mud that comes with it. the professionalism, enthusiasm and care put into the sessions by the team is incredible! plus they do a great job keeping us informed about the daily activities, so it really makes us feel involved and part of the family."

“my grandchildren have been attending your ‘forest school’ sessions. i couldn’t speak too highly of it. there are so many learning opportunities in a unique open air space which has been carefully developed to provide a wide range of outdoor activities. so much is planned for the children during the sessions – from nature trails to den making, carpentry to mud kitchen play.
yet they have freedom as well and are encouraged to explore and take risks in a safe environment, supported by staff who are very skilled in tuning in to the children’s interests and adapting plans accordingly. from the time they enter the forest school environment they are transported to a wonderful world where the beauty, challenge and endless possibilities afforded by the outdoors supports them to learn and develop in a very powerful way.
children learn life skills, gain confidence and independence, and develop a positive attitude to being outdoors in all weathers as well as a love of nature and wildlife. our ‘six’ year old always comes home and says, ‘grandma, i wish i could go to ‘forest School’ every day!” kinship grandparent

“instilling a confidence, knowledge about and love of nature would be the overall aim (of the sessions) for me. and it’s working already… my kids are completely changed for the experience. what they talk about, how they play, how they interact with trees, the earth, flowers. building a local community of people who care about nature and a slower way of parenting. gaining confidence and knowledge (me and the kids!) in the natural environment. finally having something brilliant for kids in leytonstone! watching my kids beam with pleasure using tools, building dens, climbing trees. spending quality time… bringing bites of forest school into our everyday lives!” lucy (kinship mother)
