meet our trainee ~ oliver wallace
over the coming months, in anticipation of our soon-to-be-announced traineeship, we will be sharing the stories of some of our trainees and what inspired them to sign up for this training.
oliver is a storyteller and one of our current trainees who is also going to be undertaking our kin internship. oliver embarked on the training with the following intention:
“to build up the nature connection side of my practice. it’s a large part of myself and my beliefs about what good i can offer, but because historically it’s not the kind of space i've worked in, it’s been tricky to fully kindle on my own.”
oliver also entered with hopes for the following ~
to connect to a community of practitioners who are also interested in this field of work.
to gain a badge of legitimacy in outdoor and nature connection spaces that can open up new pathways.
to build a framework that can help me structure my knowledge, curiosity and practice into an offer - and within which i can become motivated to build and deepen my knowledge, thinking and skills in this area.
to learn how to set up groups - what needs to be in place from a practical, community and practice point of view to build a group with longevity, how to find a space to work in, how to market it etc.
to be outdoors more - i love being among trees especially but in natural spaces (for want of a better word) in general and i want my work to take me and others into these precious, beautiful, wisdom offering, healing, delightful, creative spaces.
to reckon a little with my developing thoughts around work in nature and the relationship this has to privilege - especially when thinking about adults accessing this work, but also children. who gets to do this? what are the barriers to access? why should i be doing it?
to come away with solid practical skills for facilitating rich sessions in woodland settings, consolidating self taught things and getting new skills that mean i can teach safely.
to further the part of my practice which explores play, playful spaces, story and narrative as ways to open up playful spaces, kinship with nature, our interconnectedness with the world”
these are some of the areas we have indeed begun to explore on our initial training immersion week and will continue to do so over the course of the year through the work experience, self-directed coursework portfolio, practice sessions and second skills and ethos training week that the trainees will undertake.
